Winter is fast approaching, in Les Karellis, everybody is busy preparing the coming season.
We met the director of skilifts, who showed us all the novelties that should lead to a better management of snow resources of the resort.
First of all, it's important to know that our philosophy is not about producing even more artificial snow and using even more water. No, in Les Karellis, we try firstly to use at it best the snow and the water we already have.
New on the slopes !
In this perspective, "snow barriers" (or "wind barriers") has been installed strategically on the skiing area.
But what is a "snow barrier" ? It looks like this :
The snow which is deposited behind the barrier is then divided and distributed in the areas which suffer a lack of snow. A both ecological and economical system !
> ECOLOGICAL, because the barriers simply use winds to block and accumulate the snow.
> ECONOMICAL, because the production and installation costs are cheap.
Some news from the tamping side !
This winter, tamping service is innovating and equiping itself thanks to the SNOWsat technology. It measures the snow height under the machine. Why ? To a better repartition of the snow, and so to use less water and fuel !
